Important City Council Vote

Bobcat Photo

Dear Woodinville Neighbors,

After almost 10 years as a non-profit neighborhood organization representing over 200 households in the greater Woodinville area, this Tuesday, March 18, at 7pm, the Woodinville City Council will take one of most important votes in our history.

The developer who owns the Wood Trails property has offered to sell the property to the City of Woodinville and the decision to acquire about half of the total acreage is on the agenda for tomorrow night! (The city may take action later on the other half; the property is legally owned by two different people.)

On Tuesday, March 18, at 7pm -- witness an enormous CNW milestone and encourage a majority vote for this acquisition!

We’ve fought hard for 10 years to get to this point. It’d be great to have strong representation in the room so that the Council knows this is an initiative that is supported by many—not for the good of only a few as one Council Member tried to assert in a recent meeting. Don’t let any of our City Council members “weasel” out of a “yes” vote. After all, every one of them ran on a campaign platform saying they support R-1. Here’s their chance to put their vote where their mouth is!

If the City Council votes to acquire the portion of Wood Trails that’s currently for sale, it will have a number of great benefits for our neighborhood:

  1. First, it will provide a buffer between the industrial area and the R-1 area.
  2. It will protect the wildlife corridor that currently extends through this property.
  3. It will create a barrier preventing or reducing the threat of sewer coming up from the industrial district into the neighborhood.
  4. It will also protect Ordinance 532 from challenge. The developer for Wood Trails is the only entity who challenged Ordinance 532 when it passed. If the city purchases this property, it will end that challenge.
  5. It will reduce CNW’s continuous need to raise funds for legal expenses. If the legal challenge to Ordinance 532 ends up needing to go through the court systems, it will require a lot of energy on CNW’s part to watch the process, pay for our attorney to also monitor the process, etc. The last set of legal battles required over $160,000 to be raised—none of us want to do this again!

If we can convince the Council to act now, then it will be a great conclusion to a long effort relating to this property. Let's not miss this opportunity. Will you please make plans to attend tomorrow’s meeting and bring a friend with you?

Won’t you help resolve this problem by attending Tuesday night at 7pm? If we miss it, it will require a great deal of money and work to defend Ordinance 532 against the legal action already taken against it.
