Hello CNW Members:
It has been a while since you have heard from us, so we wanted to highlight recent events, provide an update, and let you know of upcoming events.
CNW is now celebrating its 4-year Anniversary – Thanks to the founders and all of you who have kept us going with your time, interest, and contributions.
Because of recent fundraising efforts, we have now turned the corner in paying our legal dues. The Better-than-Estate sale, the Ivy project (where a neighbor paid a group of us to clear his acreage of English Ivy), and the Monroe garage sale (spearheaded by the Watson clan and supported by the Coppas, Masons, and Hyders), and other contributions have generated much–needed funds.
We remain in a strong legal position. Pending before Judge Lum now is the claim by Phoenix that they are entitled to damages from the City even though Phoenix has lost the case.
We expect the City's lawyers to request a ruling from Judge Lum that Phoenix is not entitled to recover any damages from the City. We are likely to remain in a "stand-by" position until this claim is resolved.
Regardless of the outcome of this portion of the case, Phoenix will likely appeal the Judge's decision upholding the City Council's denial of the rezone applications, which is why we still need your financial support. This appeal cannot begin until the damages portion of the case is completed.
We are planning a “Sock Hop” at Phil Relnick’s on June 14. This is not a fundraiser, but an evening just to get together and enjoy each other’s company.
In June or July, we are planning for a group Garage Sale in Wellington where you can donate your unwanted goods and help us raise a few dollars for our legal fund.
For those interested in the developments downtown, Bill Grimes, representing CamWest, is soliciting input on their planned development of the Canterbury property. Look for an announcement of their meeting, currently slated for Saturday, June 21.
Sincerely,
The CNW Board
