Dear Woodinville Neighbors,

Concerned Neighbors of Wellington (CNW) invites you to hear from the candidates for two contested positions in the upcoming Woodinville City Council race.

We’ve invited the candidates below to respond to questions about protecting the R-1 zone and other issues important to our neighborhoods in the greater Woodinville area.

For over 15 years, CNW has worked closely with the City Council in Woodinville to protect Woodinville’s R-1 zoned areas. This has included:

Winning a legal battle at the WA state level to prevent up-zoning in Montevallo and Wood Trails—an action that could have caused 100 new homes to be stuffed into hillsides in high-density footprints
Preventing sewer from being forced into the R-1-zoned areas of the city
Creating the Wood Trails Park (between industrial park and the dead-end streets on the west side of 156th in the Wellington area.)

What's at Stake

In the last few years, we have witnessed Snohomish County’s attempts to change from a rural golf course to a proposed regional soccer sports field to now a potential site for multiple schools. If the latest iteration of this plan is adopted, it would snarl traffic in the greater Wellington area and could cost the City of Woodinville millions of dollars in road and other infrastructure improvements.
City Council has the opportunity to buy the former Wellington Hills Golf Course and the City Council could be the deciding vote in this critical decision.
An unbalanced City Council could make decisions that would threaten R-1 zoning. Upzoning any R-1 area could force sewer into our community, costing each homeowner $35,000 to $50,000 for hook-up. This is not an option once a decision has been made.
CNW has fought hard to preserve the wooded character of R-1. Now we need new leadership to step in and help continue this legacy by serving on the City Council.
