CNW has appealed the Hearing Examiner’s findings to the City Council so our elected officials can decide the future of our city. During the June 18th Council meeting, Woodinville City Staff presented the next step in the Wood Trails and Montevallo appeal.
There will be a closed-record hearing which means no new evidence can be submitted but representatives will be allowed to highlight issues of importance. Both parties have July deadlines for submitting written arguments.
The oral argument schedule is:
CNW is the appellant. We have questions regarding the validity of the Hearing Examiner’s findings. CNW has brought the rezone application and the Wood Trails/Montevallo preliminary plats to the City Council for its review and approval or disapproval. Both parties are limited to a 20-page written summary for the City Council. The Council already has copies of the EIS and the Hearing Examiner’s recommendation.
Our attorney, Mr. Rick Aramburu, will be presenting our case to the City. Each party will be allowed an oral presentation, limited to twenty minutes, on the evening of August 6th. The Woodinville City Council must render its decision based upon review of the public record as presented to the Hearing Examiner. Again, no new information will be allowed.
The first decision will be the site-specific rezone application for Wood Trails, then the plat application. The same applies to Montevallo. A new ordinance will be required for rezone which requires majority approval by Council, or at least 4:3. The Council has set a self-imposed deadline to reach a decision no later than August 31. The Coucil still has discretion to alter this deadline.
A more complete explanation of the process may be found on the City of Woodinville website - see agenda item #12 Reports of City Manager from the June 18th City Council Meeting. As always your attendance demonstrates interest on the part of the community. The Council’s decision will be, in part, subjective. If they believe this is a non-issue they will cast their vote in the easiest direction. They are, however, prepared for a large turnout…and we should give it to them! Even if you are not living next to these proposed developments, this decision sets the future path for the entire R-1 area; your neighborhood could, and will, be next.
