Reminder: The fate of the zoning of the neighborhood and the Wood Trails/Montevello application will have it’s one and only public hearing. Remember to save the date for the hearing on the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS):

March 14th at 7pm and March 15th at 6pm
at the Carols Edwards Center (Sorenson Gym).

Sometime after the hearing the Hearing Examiner will make a recommendation to the City Council who will then vote on the zoning change.

What you can do:

Be at the Hearing. Over the last few years you have been asked from time to time to come to various council meetings and CNW meetings. They all pale in comparison to the importance of your attendance at the hearing. Please put the dates in your calendar and remind your neighbors of the importance of the hearing.

Write the Woodinville Weekly. We need to get the word out and elevate the awareness of this hearing due to the enormous impact it will have on Woodinville. If the hearing examiner recommends zoning changes to Wellington, there will be tremendous pressure to change all R-1 zoning in Woodinville. The cut-off is Thursday morning for publication of the following week.

Prepare a Public Comment for the Hearing: We believe citizens will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to speak. Comments should concern the adequacy of the FEIS. If you made comments (written or oral) on the Draft EIS (DEIS) and those items were not addressed or not addressed to your satisfaction you should definitely make a comment. You can review the FEIS on our website. Comments with a theme of “don’t ruin our neighborhood” are usually dismissed but specific technical comments regarding issues in the FEIS such as traffic, drainage, wildlife, etc. are more apt to be considered as valid issues.

Give Money: Our attorney has been active in preparation for the hearing and the CNW leadership is pleased with our attorney and has benefited greatly from his advice. To date, our relationship has been mostly a “general advice” relationship as we have had delay after delay with the city – much to the credit or our attorneys. The role of our attorney has now changed to a “role up his sleeves and get involved” relationship as we are approaching “game time”. Attorney activity means money, and lots of it at $250 per hour! Besides the six hours of hearing time there are numerous hours of prep, meetings with CNW leadership, expert witness expenses, etc. See below on how to give.

Many neighbors have literally given hundreds and hundreds of hours of their professional technical time that have allowed us to conserve our financial resources; Otto Paris, Roger Mason, Matt Shultz, Bob Harmon, and Steve Gottshalk to name of just a few of the most dedicated neighbors. The value of their contribution if we had to pay for it would be out of reach for our neighborhood. If you see them in the neighborhood, bow to them.

Volunteers Needed: In addition to the above requests, we need a few specific volunteers. We have been very fortunate to have had Robert Casto take over the website and give it a face lift. Robert is making a career move and is moving to Ohio. We will miss him. He says he will continue to support us but eventually we will need a person with web expertise and the ability to help with content. Thank you for all your help Robert. You can contact Robert directly for details on the technicalities of the web design. Our current database of neighbors is in MS Access. We need someone willing to maintain and safeguard the database. This includes data entry, tracking down bad emails, and some “block captain” management. Do you have any expertise in traffic, drainage, environment, city planning, legal, etc? If so, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Fred Green, President - Concerned Neighbors of Wellington
Sharon Peterson - CNW Board Member
