We’ve scored a victory!

The Public Hearings have been delayed until March 14 and 15.

This is what we wanted!

Based on pressure received from the public, the City of Woodinville is moving the date(s) of the Montevallo and Wood Trails Public Hearings to Wednesday, MARCH 14 and Thursday, MARCH 15. We learned this news an hour ago, so both the City’s web site and our CNW web site do not yet reflect this new information.

Why is this great news?

• We have more time to review the Staff Report prepared by the City of Woodinville as a response to the Final Environmental Impact Statement. (You can now read the staff reports (one for each development; we recommend you read both) at http://www.ci.woodinville.wa.us/events/EIS.asp . Given that the full staff report is over 500 pages and that the City Staff did not post the report until Sunday, no citizen would have time to review this report and prepare comments on it in that short of time. This is why there is a legal requirement to provide at least 7 days for the citizens to review—and is the primary reason the City was forced to move the Hearing date.
• You have more time to review the letter you submitted a year ago and prepare edits for the upcoming Hearing.
• We can build a stronger case by collecting more evidence that soundly refutes many statements made by the developer that do not reflect the use of best available science.
• If you hired a babysitter so you could attend the Hearing(s), you can now do something infinitely more enjoyable with your evening(s)! (Although we really do want you back on March 14 and 15)

While this may at first seem a little dramatic for this situation, think about the negative long-terms impact of destroying native Salmon habitat in the Northwest—both economically as well as the enjoyment your grandchildren may be robbed of. Think about the reason you drive the extra X miles a day to and from work so that you can live in an environment where woodpeckers, raccoons, and wild birds are a common sight. Think about the 12 Characteristics of Neighborhood Character (described beautifully in the executive summary of the Sustainable Development Study and met in almost every way by the entire R1-zoned area) that make our community what it is today. Then, read the sentence again.
